We ran together as childrenA Poem by Darby Raeprobably my favorite piece I have ever writtenWe ran together as
children With our hearts tied with
string We sang in the meadows In the early days of
spring With our god given
laughter And our eyes wide and
bright We danced on the hills Until the day turned to
night
Soon our souls were torn
apart And our wings pinned to
our backs As we went our separate
ways Forced not to look back I went home And you went to hell The day we left each
other's side For how long time wouldn’t
tell
Days became years And memories drifted away Warm summers behind And presented with pain Time took its toile On childish souls As we turned into age And became our family names
I into wealth You into poverty Nothing to show Nothing to tell Beaten and abused Till blinded in sight Required and expected till it is done right dreams of days of long ago
ways freed my gaze of predicted
plays I ran to search for the
childhood friend and begin a new, hand in
hand long had it been since I
had seen you last I had grown so quick died
so fast I’d never give up till you
were again mine And I soared the sky
waiting for our time
I found you one day Curled up in the dark Your wings pulled off And your eyes sown shut You were cold and quite As I took your hand in
mine And pulled you to a place Where at last no one could
