You Were The One

You Were The One

A Poem by Melobldnfr
"

A song I wrote nearly a year ago now, that though thankfully I am no longer in the place I was when it was written, I am compelled to share.

"

How many mornings do I have to wake

As if you're right here?

How many smiles do I have to fake

'Til I get to one that's real?

Why embrace me upon goodbye

As when we first met?

Why is it no matter how hard I try

I cannot forget?

Now my life just hangs

By this thread of existence

And it's hard to reach again

Without you in it

They say I am free

But all I can see

Is this view from my knees

And how you left me there

I know you're gone

As yesterday's song

But it feels so wrong

Why do I still care?

You hurt me so bad

I should hate you

For all that's left undone

But I don't know what to do

Without the one who's the one

It's hard to keep my composure

Afraid they will see

All the turmoil 'neath the surface

That won't let me be

It's all I can do to babystep

Across the hall

And everywhere that I go now

There is this wall

That I can't get down

Can't break through

Can't get over

So I smile and play at being over you

But I'm undercover

They say I am free

But all I can see

Is this view from my knees

And how you left me there

I know you're gone

As yesterday's song

But it feels so wrong

Why do I still care?

You hurt me so bad

I should hate you

For all that's left undone

But I don't know what to do

Without the one who's the one

Now this is not to say

I'm somehow incomplete on my own

But the scars can only

Take me so far

Can you not see

What you've done?

They say I am free

But all I can see

Is this view from my knees

And how you left me there

I know you're gone

As yesterday's song

But it feels so wrong

Why do I still care?

You hurt me so bad

I should hate you

For all that's left undone

But I don't know what to do

Without the one who's the one

No I don't know what to do...

The picture, Sugar_Skulls_by_Latet, is one I hapt upon while studying images to make someone a Sugar Skull Zombie Bride for Halloween this year. As that turned out well, I somehow feel this picture does justice to the emotion in which the song was written. I guess because it's quite Dia de Los Muertos?

I am liking the lyrical flow if this, it has that feel of a music video, and the images are there to be seen, not sure about what kind of set, but music wise it would be a mix of someone like Mandy Moore and Paula Abdul.

Or maybe im just wrong, either way nice job.

Thank you for the review Moriarty. I do have my own music to this song. My best, longest friend in the world gets music more than lyrics. When I played for it, she cried and said the music to it speaks for itself. Thank you for sharing your approval, and for expressing you can see the commercial appeal of it. I don't know that it is either Mandy Moore or Paula Abdul, but if I had to pick one, I'd say probably more Mandy since I've seen/heard her sing while playing acoustic before (like me).

I loved this one, the singer in me wants to set it to music. Have you? It is beautiful!
