All of You

All of You

A Poem by Melobldnfr
"

Makes me smile...

"

09/11/13

Unlike those who look at you

And see a means to their own ends,

An object,

I look at you and see

All of you -

The good, the bad, the in-between.

The mother.  The lover.

The daughter and child.

The insecure.

The outraged.  The betrayed.

The worn.  The bloody.

The dreams.  The nightmares.

The calm.  The shakes.

Fireworks and foxholes.

The controlled and not-so-controlled,

The contained behind the expressed,

The kindness and at times

Misguided tenderness.

I see how different we are

From three short years ago.

(There's no plucking this countenance.

Beloved, it takes a blade!)

I see our imperfections,

Us in our entirety.

Yes.  "Us", you Silly!

Let not your brain crack

And voice crank

Like a kicked groin

At the thought.

Extended, I must express wonderment.

"...The best" that "ever happened" to you?

Maybe one day you will have the time

And be of the mind to kindly elaborate.

I have someone in my life for whom I could have easily written these exact words. Although this is the first piece of yours I have read, your voice is as comfortable and familiar as my own. I really like your style. I like the conversational flow to the piece, as well. My eyes got snagged on the word "warn" because I think you meant "worn", and the only reason I mention it is because this is such a wonderful piece, I was sorry that broke up the cadence for me...Yours is a volume of work I look forward to delving into further.

As with many of your works, I can just feel the jumble of emotions you must have to cope with endlessly...and again, the spirit of your poetry is very real and palpable with your own little brand of idiosyncrasies...yet the door seems to have been cracked open a bit here for an element of hope, even optimism...however there's still that one smidgen of uncertainty that is also a hallmark of your writing, usually at the end, that I always hope will not be present some day...I love some of the clashing of images you've conjured up here, like fireworks and foxholes, and the contained behind the expressed...I think I'm starting to get a pretty good sense of your poetic voice now, but you tell me haha ;)

Hopefully not for long.
Dear poet, I have read this poem and read it a second time...and thrice. I must admit (with embarrassed visage) that I do not understand most of it; but there are parts of it that I can wrap my perception around and I am very fond of it. From the title, through the imagery, to the ending, I think you have done an excellent bit of composing here. Well done.
