How Does the Earth Move?

How Does the Earth Move?

A Poem by Mellany

How does the earth move under the weight of the sky
when we are no longer connected?
Fragments of you lay scattered upon objects
and cling onto words like a tombstone to a grave.
Your name has become a shadow,
a vague resemblance to the stranger on the street,
a sombre mood that feeds upon your carcass.
Love was once an inconclusive promise,
a complimentary verb,
but now it has lost its flavour and it leaves me with an appetite.
Orchids cannot blossom in darkness.
Glitter paths must return to the sea.
Your fingerprints will fade from the skin's surface
and my poem will remain incomplete.
