Gravel and Stone

Gravel and Stone

A Poem by Mellany

When we walked through gravel and stone,

feet crunching on ancestral bones,

the sky cried and laughed in jest

and water crawled where it should not.

Our bodies moved to a nocturnal pendulum

and our heels dug deep into the back of the earth

leaving an unforgiving scar.

When we walked through this heaven of green

I felt my heart carve out an intimate space

for you,

for this day,

for this imperfectly beautiful landscape.

This was a good poem. I loved the imagery and felt a connection to the growing of love that two people have when they share an event or a day of learning of each other. I was drawn to the line: " ....and our heels dug deep into the back of the earth leaving an unforgiving scar." That line was magic.

I enjoyed this read very much.
