Pride and Joy
A Poem by Melissia Ann
Memories of my children when they were little tikes
Free as the morning sun, always shining brightly .
is the heart of a child, so young and innocent,
free from worries, always smiling back up at you
with a beautiful smile and that special twinkle in their eyes,
knowing nothing of this war-filled world we live in today.
What does the future hold for the innocent child ?
Will they forever have to fight for their lives to be free?
Will they live in perfect Harmony ?
What will the future hold for them?
Days go by too fast now my children are almost grown.
My son is now 17, a handsome young man
who dreams of one day becoming a auto technician
and making life easier by fixing people's automobiles.
Many days have come and gone now.
My little girl is grown up.
At sixteen she is a beautiful young lady
who dreams of maybe becoming a nurse some day,
to help people get well.
She has a heart of gold and wants to help
people who are sick and can't do for themselves,
to make their life easier.
I am so proud of them for they both have done well in school.
My son will walk the field next school term, my daughter will in two years.
I sit here thinking about the days when they were just little tikes.
I read them fairytales from a book until they fell asleep.
Once they were asleep I would kiss them on the forehead,
tuck them in, tell them goodnight,
turn and slowly walk to their door,
turn off the light and say 'Goodnight Sweetheart,
Mommie loves you. Sleep well'.
I still have the fairytale books we bought when they were little,
in hopes that someday I will read these fairytales to my grandkids
We, as a parents may not see eye to eye all the time
but I think we can always compromise and come to an understanding.
I will always love you both.
You both are my Pride and Joy
