The Day You Left

The Day You Left

A Poem by Melissa

It takes my breath away when I remember what you said

But I don’t know if it was real or just in my head

There are a few things I can’t shake

And the past that won’t break

And the feelings that are here

That still make me shed a tear

I wish I could forget

But it doesn’t come easy

When he’s the one you wanted

At the time that you parted

I miss him like crazy

Though I want to let go

It’s hard for me to say this

But push goes to show

That you weren’t ready

To test the distance

Instead you gave it away

Like it was out of existence

My smile doesn’t glow

The answers I don’t know

My eyes don’t show

The tears that I know

I wish he could read my mind

Because then he would see

There’s more to the story

That I led him to believe

The navy was never the plan

He was my best friend, as much as a lover can

We’ve never been apart

Till the day he recruited to the oceans bleeding heart

A sad poem. The navy and the sea. Can steal the emotion of love away if we allow.
