My Dolly and Me

My Dolly and Me

A Poem by Melissa Kesead

Princess was my girl dolly’s name

We liked to play a baby game

I’d pretend I was a mother

To her and her baby brother

In a pink stroller we would walk

I’d talk to her in baby talk

She’d sit there with a smile so sweet

As we were cruising down the street

My friends would stop and say hello

I would nod to girl and fellow

We would not stop until the shade

And then we’d drink some lemonade

Then the babies would cry loudly

And I’d bustle them home proudly

It was time for afternoon nap

So I’d dress them in gown and cap

Snuggled down in their bed they’d go

And while I rocked them to and fro

I’d sing them both a lullaby

So they won’t pout and they won’t cry

Drifting off into sweet slumber

Under sheets of blue and umber

I’d tiptoe out and shut the door

And when they woke we’d play some more!
