The Cat

The Cat

A Poem by Melissa Kesead

She walks

her destination unknown

to no one but her

Selfishly she crawls

into my lap and

relentlessly pursues my hand

until I give in and

scratch her head until

she is satisfied

She sits

perched on the windowsill

staring

Her kisses hold not promises

of everlasting love and happiness

just gentle affection in a

silent session of reciprocation

She sleeps

curled by my feet

endlessly purring
