War IIA Poem by Melissa KeseadWar II
I imagine men in distant lands Praying for their people And in the aftermath of an explosion The falling of a steeple A mother grabs her baby son To save him from the gunfire And far above the shattered homes The plans fly higher and higher
Can war be the only way to make a point In a world where the highest power is the President; Where children starve in our own cities; Where sex and love are the same; Where people's minds are closed…to the truth
I see children having children On a mattress on the floor And drugs being sold to teenagers Through restaurants back doors A baby cries in the dead of night From lack of milk and food Horror films dominate TV screens Hellraiser, The Thing, The Brood Can the minds of the people be so devoid of feeling In a world where soap operas control the lives of housewives; Where children play with toy Uzis; Where babies are aborted because of their sex; Where people are killed and tortured without reason
I envision money spent on weapons That could destroy the world The poor go hungry while the rich Get their hair washed and curled
