Death at Dawn

Death at Dawn

A Poem by Melissa Kesead

He waited

and the silence filled his ears

like the cry of angry gods

and the truth fought lies

that ate ravenously at his soul

He listened

and heard for the last time

the kiss of waves upon the shore

and the birds greeting the dawn

He died

as a tear rolled down

his swollen face

reflecting the suns first rays

as it brought life to the land
