Adrift

Adrift

A Poem by Melissa Kesead

Sailing on my memory

I drift from thought to emotion

as if I were at sea

on a great big ocean

Memories of you

make waves within the deep

churning with the passion

it lulls me to sleep

Sparkling with teardrops

the sails heave a sigh

and blow me into yesterday

seagulls pass me by

Rowing toward the future

I passed a moment when

your arms were wrapped around me

no long could we pretend

Reaching the shore of here and now

I anchor strong and fast

secure my emotion, dry my tears

and wave goodbye to the past
