Whisked Away

Whisked Away

A Poem by Melissa Kesead

A ball bounces across the floor

the child follows

it makes it's way out through the door

and disappears

A favorite doll is grasped to cuddle

from the sandbox

it's face is streaked from a puddle

with muddy tears

The child wanders down the street

looking for toys

the patter of tiny feet

is barely heard

A dog barks down the block

a new distraction

the child giggles and kicks a rock

chasing a small bird

Far, far away from home

already lost

forgotten like a broken comb

tossed away

A car turns close by a field

and follows

the man behind the wheel

dirty and gray

He slows, stops the car

and emerges

the light from a bar

shines down

Up suddenly the child is swept

whisked away

all that is left

is a muddy clown

It's wonderfully written, again, but deeply sad. The innocence of young children is such a beautiful thing.

ahhh this one is not a happy poem at all. So many children vanish every day just like this without a trace. Sad but true words you wrote.
