Poem about tarot cards and a woman who reads them. Disclaimer: I do not believe in this, its just a silly little poem.
Cotton candy and clowns
Midway games galore
Roller coaster rides
Excited for more!
Laughing and giggling
Having fun at the fair
In her long robes
She'd give them a stare.
Her voice was seductive
As she beckoned to all
She would tell the future
With her crystal ball.
For just a few coins
She'd talk 'bout careers
Or romantic, sweet love
If they'd only come near.
Props and tricks
She used in her craft
Tarot cards and voodoo
Many thought daft.
Ouija boards and potions
Powders and the like
Hold on to her hand
She'd be ready to strike.
Beware of Miss Nuvie
She'll get in your head
Select the wrong card
You might end up dead!
I was read a few times in my life. I scare the reader. Tarot cards, like all things. Just a option for we decide our path and place.
"Beware of Miss Nuvie
She'll get in your head
Select the wrong card
You might end up dead!"
I did like the above lines. Some folks believe in words of a storyteller or card reader. Thank you Melissa for sharing the excellent poetry.

I admit, I will read my horoscope from time to time, but just for fun!

Really enjoyed reading your poem. Especially when you said, "Beware of Miss Nuvie, She'll get in your head, Select the wrong card, You might end up dead! I don't practice divination, but I do understand the evil element behind this. Well written. Keep writing.

I know a lot of people do believe in it though. It can be really dangerous if you let it get into your brain! Glad you liked it!
I like your topic... it's a very interesting topic :) I enjoyed your free, fun view of a card reader... they scare me haha.... I went to one about 8 or 9 years ago that didn't speak English. I walked out of there in shock with the things she said. I wrote a song about it and performed that song for a little while. The things she told me would happen all fell into place. I never wanted to go back haha... then I went to another one and it was a complete joke... complete guessing game. Just that once though ;)
A nice poem. Interesting elements. There seems to be a human need to believe - sometimes in ways others may deem a bit "off", but belief systems are potent. And, yes, there definitely are those who look to benefit/capitalize upon the human need to believe.
I'm probably being more than a little perfectionistic, but I wonder if adding in some punctuation might be something to consider. It is fine as it is, and this is just one of my things so I'll toss it out there.

You are right, people need something to believe in. I try not to judge people for what they do or do not believe but, yeah, I don't personally get into the fortune telling thing. I can think of much better things to spend my money on.
Nicely written Melissa, and I am glad you put a disclaimer on it too. I get the feeling this was maybe looking back to years gone by, because my sister believes in this and I can assure you it is not a few coins she parts with. Fortunes, like horoscopes is just ludicrous. "oh, you will meet a handsome stranger and have an unexpected windfall. Your Gran is watching over you, blah blah." Yes, I'm in my forties so it's highly improbable my gran is alive, meeting a handsome stranger could be a hundred other things than romance and as for coming into a windfall, I found a five pound note in my jeans I didn't know I had. It's nothing more than reading tells and if they were so good at it, why haven't they made their own fortune at it.
Phew....rant over :)

I will admit that I have read my horoscope on many occasions but just to laugh at how generalized they are and how people actually believe them. I would never, ever in a million years spend money on fortune tellers or palms readers. I love your word -- "ludicrous". Exactly!
This fun poem brings to mind all the color, smells, and attractions one might find at a fair or carnival. Always, there are those who want to know answers only the dark side can tell.
