The judge banged his gavel
Sentenced him to probation
He'd crashed his fancy car
Near the police station.
Required community service
For three months and one day
Might stifle the drinking urge
And prevent a jail stay.
The young man laughed
He was virtually scot-free
Working with the handicapped?
How hard could that be?
He met her on a Sunday
She sat out in the sun
What a beautiful girl
This just might be fun.
As he walked up closer
He saw she had no arms
It was such a crying shame
That she had endured harm.
"Could you fetch my book?"
Quietly she asked.
He melted in her blue eyes
And would do any task.
The novel was a romance
A "pretty boy" upon the cover
His naked chest was chiseled
And he reached out to his lover.
"Can you turn the pages, please?"
She stretched out her long neck
He grimaced, frowned and shrugged
Oh Hell, what the heck?
He read about libido
And of jealous rage
As his finger followed along
She would say, "New page".
The months passed by quickly
And their allotted time together
He asked and she revealed
A drunk hit her in bad weather.
She didn't need her arms
Was all that he could think
This angel had incredible wings
And had saved him from the brink.
You are a born story teller - now despite the fact that I saw the ending at around the third stanza - which could be obscured if you wished with more ambiguity - I still loved the wholesome telling of this Melissa. Your rhyming is impeccable. I loved the Mills and Boon cover description - it spoke of the entire relationship at that point which I thought very cleverly done.

A heartfelt poem. I enjoyed reading. I really liked the last two lines, "This angel had incredible wings And had saved him from the brink." Nicely written! Keep writing.
You told a very nice story in the poetry.. You led the reader to a good ending.
"Your soul has no sour,
your heart is made of diamonds,
your smile is perfection,
your love is even better."
Lessons can be learn when we see the truth. Thank you for sharing the excellent poem.

A beautiful portrayal of why we should all think before it is too late. We aren't only just playing with our own lives when being reckless, there is always an innocent victim devastated by our actions.
Thank you for sharing.

Many young people (and, well old too for that matter) don't think of the consequences of their actions. So many people can be involved in a wrong decision. Sad, but true.
