A poem about a newlywed couple and their new home.
She thought when she married
They'd buy a cute little place
One with a white picket fence
But that just was not the case.
They lived in a tiny apartment
Upstairs on the third floor
With awful, noisy neighbors
Right outside their door.
The pipes were always leaking
The handyman inept
Had to pay a huge deposit
For a kitty to be kept.
"At Your Own Risk"
Stated a poolside sign
The only thing that swam
Was a bright green slime.
The washer/dryer combos
Were always, always full
The landlord was an ogre
Strict with all the rules.
Their future looked bleak
Stuck in apartment life
But this too shall pass
Said the husband to his wife.
Very true Melissa. These things are sent to try us. We work for the ideal and it is more precious if and when we achieve it. We can never fully appreciate things if we havent had to put the effort into attaining them.
Great piece, enjoyed reading :)
LOVED IT!!! The descriptions feel so real, like I'm actually there, seeing the world through the wife's eyes. Thanks for posting this, Melissa!

This is based on true and actual events from when my husband moved away from where we grew up and then back again 11 years later. I was a basket case for a while but calmed down, eventually! Haha!
I like the old wisdom. "You will miss the hard days. When life was hard and we were closer."
"Their future looked bleak
Stuck in apartment life
But this too shall pass
Said the husband to his wife."
Funny how the bad days turn sweeter with distance and new places. Thank you dear Poet for sharing the excellent poetry.

Realistic poem...Life can be better if we put forth the effort. "But this too shall pass
Said the husband to his wife." I like the husband's optimistic view of the future. Nicely written.
