A Poem by Melissa Kester

You can feel it
But can it be explained?
You cannot see it
But it can be proclaimed.
It's been taken lightly
And been taken serious.
It's brought much joy
And made others delirious.
But can it be defined?
That is what I question.
That's what we will learn
From this little session.

Does she prefer mountains
Or green, grassy hills?
Do you know best
What gives her the chills?
Does she watch the sun rise
As she greets the new day?
Or does she look to the west
When the sky turns to gray?
Does she wait for the moon
And follow the stars?
Does she dream of other worlds
In galaxies afar?
Does she grieve in her heart
And ache in her chest?
Or is she undeniably happy
Like all the rest?
Do her eyes change color
When her mood runs high?
Does she envy the birds
And wish she could fly?
Do she like to drink coffee?
How does she take her tea?
Does she prefer inland
Or does she love the sea?
What brings her joy?
Do you know all her fears?
Can you settle her down
And ease all her tears?
What does it take
To get her to smile?
How far would you go,
How many miles?
Does she bite her lip
When she thinks too hard?
Does she roll her eyes
When she plays her card?
Can you feel a pull
When she's not even there?
When she walks into the room
Do you become fully aware?
Do you know all her moods
Without having to ask?
Can you see the truth
When she puts on a mask?
All this and more
She goes deeper than the sea.
Can you find all her treasures
And make her believe?

Ask yourself this
And then you will know.
Are you really in love
Or is it all just for show?
