Chapter 5: Holly (Part II)A Chapter by Melly mooI still have so much to learn about her.
A swift knock on the
door made me jump. At first I thought it was them, coming to wipe the Leonard
family off the face of The New World. Though that was silly thinking, it was
probably just Jones coming to check on me again, he was such a gentleman but I
truly was doing ok. I unlatched the door and it swung open freely. The sun was bright;
the glare from the water’s edge behind my two visitors was sparkling UV rays
into my sensitive eyes.
“How can I help you gentleman?” I asked my hand like a solute against my forehead in my attempt to block out the sun. “Holly, it’s me” Jones said, I squinted and forced a smile. “Of course it is, come in” I said stepping aside. I shut the door and my eyes were thankful. “This is Officer Darwin” Jones said as I inspected this new visitor. “Hi, here you doing?” he said extending out his hand, I shock it and then crossed my arms firmly feeling uneasy at the thought of a stranger in my home. “Fine, thank you” I answered giving him the once over before directing my voice to Jones “What’s all this about” he brought backup that couldn’t be good. “Well we were going to tell you but we weren’t even sure if it was legitimate or not” he trailed off looking between his partner and me. “If what was legitimate? Do you have a lead? Go on” I said as I could see he started trying to talk just as I did. “No not a lead, but even if we did we couldn’t tell you because it’s an ongoing investigation” he started to ramble and I was losing my patience. “Jones it’s been an ongoing investigation since my parent murder, don’t feed me that crap” he swallowed hard and I waited as he got the balls to answer me as an adult. “We found your grandmother’s will” his words sent chills down my spine, was the house not left to me, was I now homeless too? I shifted my weight as I tried to keep composed. “And?” “Well you’re not yet twenty one” “So I need to go into foster care?” I asked trying to patch up an answer from what little he was willing to say about Nan’s will. “No, your Nan wishing for you to live with a close friend of hers, it took us a while but with the information your Nan gave us we were able to locate him and he said it would take him about three days to get here” him? Three days? Where does this man live, Africa? “That was three days ago” “Excuse me?” I said astonished, he could be here any minute and I’m only getting told this now! “That was three days ago” he repeated, I looked at his partner then glared at him. “I heard you. And you thought it unnecessary to notify me earlier? What else does it say in this will?” I asked, hands on hips unable to grasp the situation. Nan didn’t have close friends; well none close enough to visit her in my lifetime. Who would my Nan trust to leave her granddaughter to? Or was she mental and was planning on leaving me with some stranger so met in her hippy days. I know I shouldn’t be angry with her, but a part of me was the rest was just confused as all hell. © 2012 Melly moo |
