Missing you

Missing you

A Poem by Melanie Mabry

Missing you is sour,

like eating unripe fruit

I’ve been eating it for weeks

and it’s making it so I can’t sleep.

Missing you,

is like having an annoying bruise

pushing against the back of my heart

pulsating with every breath I take

I can feel you there

but barely

until I finally fall into a sleep

and feel my face against your chest.

Our legs twisted together

as close as we can get

I can’t fall asleep

not in this dream

because dreaming is all I have left of you.
