Queen of Cards

Queen of Cards

A Chapter by Spectra Nox

"Do you have a King?" Luciela asked, peering over at me. Her hair was worn in two bunches but spilled over her shoulders like brunette feathers. Her cards were neatly fanned out in her hand and her hazel eyes were etched with a competitive spark.

I rolled my eyes at her, before shaking my head. "Go fish" I said, watching her grumble and pick up a card.

Luciela and I are very mature people so we decided it was high time to play a game of "Go Fish" instead of Blackjack and Texas Hold 'em. We were gambling with 5 cent coins, and I was winning, which is why Luciela is slightly annoyed at losing $2.65, which was her bus money.

"You know, you could stop being insensitive about this. If I can't get home on the bus, Mum will kill me!" Luciela shouted.

I raised my hands in surrender, and slid backwards. We were sitting on the cold cement and Luciela's icey expression got me worried.

"She has a 3, Queen, 10 and an Ace!" Shouted Reece, from the Tables, which sat next to our undercover spot.

I turned my glance toward him and glared at him, before cowering back and turning to Luciela. He was very popular and really mean. And honestly, I didn't want to get bashed.

"So. Elise, Do you have a Queen?" Asked Luciela. I turned to her and gave her a look.

I pulled out my Queen of Hearts and waved it in her face. "It was my go anyway" I said, dumping my cards in her lap.

I stood up and started to walk away, before exchanging a brief glance with one of the most popular guys at our school. Matt Harlet. Nono not Har-let it was pronounced Matt Har-lay, and I had a huge crush on him.

Most girls at our school were tramps. Wearing short skirts with short shorts underneath. They usually were annoying and had a nasty attitude. They leeched on attention of any kind and basically had sex with anything that moved.

The guys were just as bad. They treated some of the girls with swear words and were  dirty jokesters, and slept around with chicks and called them harlets. They also played rough sports but not many of them were ripped with muscled. Oh and most of them were dicks.

I don't know if Matt was like them, but he was beautiful, inside and out. He was a jokester, and every girl wanted him. He had curly bronze-brown hair, with emerald green eyes and a mischevious smile.

And at his side was Cher. Cher was one of those tramps, but she wasn't that bitchy. She tended t be mysterious and just as mischevious, and of course, everyguy wanted her.

Cher was a very noticable person. If it wasn't for her purple-red dyed hair and violet eyes, then it was her infective laugh. She surpassed common stereotypes and was in the English Advanced class and was known for her intelligence.

Unfortunately, my social awkwardness and random nature gave everyone the impression I was a dopey, bi-polar owl. I wasn't overly happy in making new friends and found it awkward talking to new people.

Don't get me wrong. I don't have some sort of disorder, I'm just weird. Not that having a disorder was bad, Luciela had ADHD and we got along fine.

In my day-dreaming daze, I realised I was blank staring at Matt and his friends were gawking at me.

I violently blushed before turning around, burying my face into my hands.

"Well that was awkward" Luciela pointed out.

"I feel so retarted" I whispered hoarsely, shaking my head.

"Retard!" Someone shouted in the distance.

"Oh Shut the f**k up, Xavier!" Shouted Luciela, sticking her middle finger up at him. Luciela then softened her gaze and looked at me. "You're not retarded. You're really attractive, infact, if I was lesbian, I would root for you. Not that I'm lesbian or anything" She said nicely.

"I mean look! You have platnium blonde hair. Natural too. Any girl would die to have that colour! And your eyes are such a cool shade of blue. I mean, I would get contacts in that colour." Luciela said, supportively.

I sniffled a little, before looking up at her. My looks didn't mean much to me, and I didn't try or want to look pretty, but what she had said was probably the nicest comment she had ever said to me.

I shook my head a little, giving her a faint smile. She was my bestest and only friend.

Luciela grinned back, and then leaned over grabbing a strand of my hair.

"And your shaggy, layered cut totally suits you, babe" Luciela added, leaning back again, and looking behind me with a shocked expression

I turned around and looked at Matt and his gang. I jolted a little in shock. He was walking this way. Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god! I thought frantically.
