To Girls Who WaitA Poem by Mel JayneWaiting for a girl.A girl waits alone, For a friend, She says. But then Her mind wanders To what could have been, Of Venessa and Aubry, All short skirts and wonderful eyes. When her friend is there They laugh, Catch glances, Stare. There isn't a name For what they are, A thing separate from friends. No intimacy, Yet. The girl had been waiting To leave her town, To set herself free. Had waited until she would find A girl to call her own.
