Not My Hat.

Not My Hat.

A Poem by Mélania Woolf

We laid our bodies on a failing cloud

His warm skin next to mine, yet, millions of miles away

He fell into a deep hole, but the crash made no sound

Far below were photographs of a pretence, scenarios never to happen

His words against mine

I could feel him struggling, hitting, pulling and pushing the nightmare

I could hear, from behind the doors of his misty breaths

A desperate song sailors used to hum, before the ship  gave up to waves

And when we sat on a table for two,

sipping our bitter coffee along with our dying vows

I saw in his eyes a panic that burns woods and dreams in a blink

A frail citizen in a war he had not chosen, was he

Once, he pulled a chair and looked at me in pale ease

" I survived the earthquake tonight, my love...

But I shall not give up to sleep... Not yet."

The ground of odds shook under our feet

He knew I would leave way too soon,

Before he had prepared his suits and packed his feelings.

Before I realized all was but a hat displayed in a store

One I could not afford taking home with me.

( I'm sorry. They did not make a commitment in my size)

The way you describe a separation with such love for all that is between two
The reemergence of this hat that doesn't quite fit

To be with someone only meant to have this beautiful journey on end
Never to break

I love the style you have adopted throughout this write
it is so filled with peace

I am so glad to know this poem reached to you!
Sometimes you feel that relationships are not.. read more
A cool almost detached expression of involvement in a love affair that may have killed one party ... and left the other to witness it. Its certainly a curiosity ... and a coming of age in all relations of love. I found it fascinating. It reminds me of Wilfred Owen's ... ' I am the enemy you killed my friend.' Nicely done!
