Not My Hat.A Poem by Mélania WoolfWe laid our
bodies on a failing cloud His warm
skin next to mine, yet, millions of miles away He fell
into a deep hole, but the crash made no sound Far below were
photographs of a pretence, scenarios never to happen His words against mine I could
feel him struggling, hitting, pulling and pushing the nightmare I could
hear, from behind the doors of his misty breaths A desperate
song sailors used to hum, before the ship
gave up to waves And when we
sat on a table for two, sipping our
bitter coffee along with our dying vows I saw in
his eyes a panic that burns woods and dreams in a blink A frail
citizen in a war he had not chosen, was he Once, he
pulled a chair and looked at me in pale ease " I
survived the earthquake tonight, my love... But I shall
not give up to sleep... Not yet." The ground
of odds shook under our feet He knew I
would leave way too soon, Before he
had prepared his suits and packed his feelings. Before I
realized all was but a hat displayed in a store One I could
not afford taking home with me.
