Let me be

You look so concerned

And your attention I earned

This process, I have learned

Say,

What slips through your mind?

As you stand there looking at me

It’s from your eyes I find

That you assume I am not free

But do trust my words now

I don’t need for you to liberate me

See,

My head is not bare

And you fail to see my covered hair

You pause everything and you stare

And you judge me with your glare

Certainly I’m in deep despair

But are you not aware?

Under this scarf that I wear

I have feelings, and I do care

Say,

 when will this end?

The black-suited men you send

“A ‘very human’ advice from a friend”

Oh please, let’s not pretend!

Wide seas and years, you won’t understand

Or maybe it’s your ‘civilization’ I offend?

Stop!

Time and time again

You speak of democracy

You rob me of my liberty

All I ever wanted was equality

Take off your masks of humanity

Why can’t you just let me be?
