Reassurance

Reassurance

A Poem by Melanie Jane Boicourt Shanks

Growth takes more than perseverance,

it also takes interference.

To hold back from pursuing something

that has become a consistent wanting,

can be good for your soul,

 can help you become whole.

The thing that nags at you

 could be what snags you

 in the end.

 When you bend

away

 from your prey,

 you can live another day

 without dismay.

Accomplishment isn’t always something you receive.

It is often something you achieve

 by not accomplishing

 the very thing

that is the loudest in your head.

The things that you do instead

 are the real achievements.

They may not bring compliments

 from the outside,

but they may help you hide

from that secret pleasure

 that you refuse to endeavor.

Discipline and endurance

can create your own reassurance.

I have been writing since I knew how. Before that I would just draw pictures to tell a story. My true passion is poetic lyrics. That is mostly what I am inspired to write. I have been dabbling in othe.. more..
