Awaken ALL!

Awaken ALL!

A Poem by Melanie Jane Boicourt Shanks

Can’t get free from my mind.

I find

that I’m addicted,

inflicted.

It’s not a disease,

this tease

that the world plays.

This soul phase

is just a blink,

I think,

a short time

to rhyme

and sing a dance.

In this trance

called life,

I’ll be a wife,

a mother,

a lover,

all the roles I can play.

But some day

it won’t be enough.

I’ll call its bluff.

I’ll stop and ask,

"What’s behind the mask,

the veil I wear?"

The world won’t share

the truth.

In my youth

I saw a glimpse.

But never since

have I encountered,

or even heard

of anyone who knows.

Would I have chose

to live with this doubt,

not knowing what it’s about?

The mystery

throughout history

is “why are we here?”

Is that insincere

to question our roots?

We are the fruits

 of their labor.

Our neighbor

might not be

as curious as we

are, but that doesn’t mean

that we should lean

their way

to stay

safe from ridicule.

There’s not a rule

against questioning, yet.

So don’t fret

if you feel the same.

No blame

 shall come from me.

So just be

who you are.

Because, so far

so good.

It should

work itself out.

So don’t doubt

that you’ll make it through,

because you

are right to question.

It’s only just begun.

This awakening

is happening.

You are a part of it.

So don’t just sit

 and watch the show.

If you know

what’s going on,

then come along

and help to carry.

Don’t bury

the message you feel.

It’s real,

so let it out.

Shout

it to a friend,

your neighbor, or kin.

Don’t stall.

Awaken ALL!

I absolutely love this. I like that it's long but skinny, giving the illusion that it's shorter...if that makes sense? Anyways this poem stirs up emotions of happiness and awareness and lots of other good things that I can't quite describe. This is a very well written piece and I love the message and the rhyming. Beautiful!

I absolutely loved reading this poem. I can feel the inspiration as I read.
The words speak to me personally and further instill ideas that we should question the world, while not questioning our primal urge to understand. It was very uplifting. Am I right to assume this was written in both a social and spiritual context? We are all living through exciting times.
Thank you for sharing
