Wresting

Wresting

A Poem by Melanie Jane Boicourt Shanks

Gooey, grimy, goopy, grossness is gathering generously near to shore.

People panicking at its closeness; an extent that’s never been seen before.

Populations protesting.

The muck keeps cresting.

A remedy is remote, and so they just keep suggesting.

There seems to be no end to what we‘re investing.

Companies contesting,

While the sea creatures are ingesting.

The true tragedy is what this is divesting

From our brothers and sisters who should be nesting.

Wonderfully written poem about the oil spill. Your rhyme and rhythm are perfect and so well thought out. The only thing I didn't particularly enjoy was the alliteration at the very beginning, it felt out of place and silly to me. I didn't find it to be a good start to the poem, but that's only my opinion. The rest of the poem I enjoyed thoroughly, very well done. It really had a certain rhythm to it that kept you going right until the very end, you could feel every stress. Great poem.
