I Had A Voice

I Had A Voice

A Poem by Melanie Jane Boicourt Shanks

I had a voice
 Inside of me
 Trying to get out
 Trying to break free
 Tied up and locked
 Without a key
Like a bird in a cage
 Instead of a tree

 I had a song
 That came to me
 Full of rhythm
 And harmony
 I'd write it down
 But it would plea
 For me to sing
 It's melody.

A soulful voice that struggles to be heard. We hear you, dear poet.
