Chin up

Chin up

A Poem by Mehar Anaokar

Hold your head up higher than
You imagined you could keep
For since when do lions bow down to
The opinions of sheep?

Just like the wanton river
Is undisturbed by a pebble
You must carry on, on your way
Don't sink down to its level

It's not the first time that we've seen
A nightingale mocked by a crow
Raise crows, they peck your eyes out
Just turn away to what you know

For every word you say out loud
You'll find a thousand in return
Most of them irrelevant, and
All of them to be burned

When has a light breeze ever made
Difference to a marble figure
It's grace stands tall, set in stone
A breeze is but a whisper

For every thought you offer
You'll be questioned for your sense
Your worth is ranked in millions
You mustn't waver for two cents

To convince them of what you really are
Is like explaining colours to the blind
There won't be enough that you can say
To ever change their mind

Keep your back straight, keep your chin up
Keep your mind steady and heart, true
Because in the end, when it comes to life
It's all about you.
