When fears come alive

When fears come alive

A Poem by Mehar Anaokar

When the nights seem long
And the clouds above freeze
When daylight seems far
And you're filled with unease

When monsters smile at you
Through the gaps in the trees
When you fall down a hole
When you fall to your knees

When midnight strikes
And crushes your dreams
When you're trapped in terror
Surrounded by beasts

When no one around you
Is ready to believe
When you're failed by your friends
And failed by your dreams

When the warmth inside you
Drowns in cold steel
When anguish and horror
Are all you can feel

When the world around you
Seems all too real
When you sell to the devil
But he breaks the deal

When you've fallen in dirt
And can't rub yourself clean
When your friends seem unwilling
And foes seem too keen

When skies turn to red
And blood turns to green
When roses are thorns
And songs are just screams

That's when fears come alive
It's when you can't breathe
When your heart's in your mouth
And your hopes, at your feet.
