The Mountain And The LakeA Chapter by MehamehaMutual Love
Part Two
Once there was a peaceful lake. She was cool, calm, and all of life depended on her. Guests raced to her daily to see their smiles in her mirrored surface. She thought, "It's good to be a lake. I have purpose and bring harmony to all." Her comfort remained through countless generations.
In an instant her feet slipped away. The earth no longer held her tight. Fate denied her a proper farewell. A twisted world emerged of rapids and ledges. It plunged her into giant pools only to be swept away once more. She grasped in vain at the banks along her sides. "When will I rest? Where will it end?" she cried.
Her sides indolently widened to the sea's great expanse. The rhythmic motion of the waves now ruled her days and nights. She felt a strange sensation of being silently sifted skyward. A vision of the vast sea formed beneath her. On the glazed surface of the sea a darkened floating shadow took shape. It seemed to mimic her every move. The pressures and currents of air were all that held her.
She now understood. She gasped in revelation. "Was this me? What trick is this?" "I used to reflect all others. What have I become?"
She thought, "What a frightening experience." "I disliked being a river or a sea." "But I detest being a cloud most of all."
"I am high above the life I once knew. I am no longer a part of anything." "I have no one near. I do not matter to anyone" "I must not be important."
