I Am FromA Poem by MegEvery year, for the past four years, I've had to write an I Am From poem in school. This is the latest one. Out of all the poems I've written, I think that this is the one poem that represents all of me.I am from a dead end occupied by scattered pot holes, and a park sparkling with children’s laughter. I am from sleepless nights, and meaningless fights, with friends who push forward, while I always hold back. I am from holidays at grandpa’s house, enveloped in tension, since the arrival of Lovely Linda. I am from missing keys, and mountains of emotions, hidden deep behind locked doors. I am from a plethora of books, stacked against every spare wall. I am from blaring music, interlocked with lyrics of heartache and deceit. I am from singing at the top of my voice, like fingernails on an unsuspecting chalkboard. I am from Richard’s Rock, and the carefully selected blossoms, he delivered to me. I am from the familiar scent of homemade cookies, and the aroma of the changing seasons. I am from laying before the glorious stars, and dreaming of better days. I am from the desperate tears I have cried, and eruptions of uncontrollable laughter. I am from the lessons I have learned, and the blissful moments I cling to. I am from notebooks laced with strategically crafted words, of bitter memories and broken truths. I am from the battered photograph, that used to mean everything, but is now shamefully hidden, beneath pages tainted by hatred. But most of all, I am from the eternal faith drilled deep within my bones, and the simple hope that one day I will break free. © 2009 Meg |
