Our Last Dance

Our Last Dance

A Poem by Meg

Round and round we go,
barely staying in control.
I can feel the music,
in the depths of my soul.

The heat of the beat,
is powering my weary feet.
My lack of hate,
is slowly sealing our twisted fate.

Swirling and twirling,
my mind won't stop whirling.
The fact that you are near,
is overwhelming me with fear.

I can't help but shiver,
at the memory of your betrayal.
You are making me quiver,
with the weight of your embrace.

Tell me I have nothing to fear.
Just hold me a little tighter, my dear.
Help me win this fight,
as we sway swiftly to the right.

Our hands our locked,
my anger is dropped,
please don't look
at that stupid clock.

Your eyes are glowing,
my excitement is growing,
please don't tell me
our song is slowing.

At the piano's final note,
the passionate words we wrote,
are still nothing short,
of a heartless hoax.

The end is finally here.
Silent, and so very clear.
Your love for me has faded,
and I'm through with being jaded.

You walk across the dance floor,
as I silently plead for more.
Without a final glance,
I am nothing but the broken past.

Well written and it flows nicely. It starts out sweet and ends a bit bitter and I really liked that about this poem. It's a poem that I think so many people can relate to. On one hand it reminds me of going to a school dance at school and getting to dance with your crush and then he leaves you and goes on and your left with a million questions. On the other hand (especially taking the title into consideration) it reminds me of a couple who might have broken up, but are at an event together and they decide to dance and at the end realize the dance signifies the end of the relationship. The last line sums it up perfectly and leaves the reader a bit sad. Nicely done.
