Invention Of The Millenium

Invention Of The Millenium

A Poem by Meghan Newton

A mirage of confusion,
Biotechnological fusion,
A way of feeling like you are no longer human,
Devoid of emotions,
Oblivious to pain,
A miracle invention used to switch off our brains,
The fear that we thrived in, is no longer recognised,
The pain that we grew with, has no way to get inside,
Emotionless robots, we would become,
But heartache and fear would be completely undone,
No longer would we cry at premature demise,
No longer would we long for the loves of our lifes,
We would instead exist in a self absorbed bubble,
Our lifes would be meaningless but that causes no trouble,

Monotonous routines, executed with no meaning,
Long, insignificant lifetimes with no true achievements,
An endless blur of futile bereavement,
Our intensified pain is the most complex of regions,

Imagine a life with no grief or lies,
But imagine a life where happiness is deprived,
We need to hurt to feel alive,
We need our pain so that we can survive.
