Speak Only When You're Spoken To!

Speak Only When You're Spoken To!

A Poem by Encore
"

Titled after the first line of the poem... My imagination is a bit poo.

"

Speak only when you’re spoken to!

Don’t you know you’re not important?

You’re only a teenager;

What do you have to say

That’s so important!

All you think about is

Yourself, boys, and clothes.

Always sulky and woeful.

Talk to me when you get a job.

What’s there to be sad about?

You’re young

And all you have on your plate is school.

Why haven’t you finished your food?

You’re not becoming anorexic, are you?

What’s there to be self-conscious about?

You’re young and skinny.

Eat up, I don’t like you being so thin.

You’re not staring at that boy, right?

You teenagers are all the same.

Thinking of the opposite sex

All the time.

Of course I’m right.

I’m the parent.

I know you better than

You know yourself.

"Don't you know you're not important?" Wow. that's pretty mean. lol It's a delicate balance teaching your child that the world does not revolve around them while at the same time reminding them that they mean the world to you. Sometimes a teen needs a rude awakening to the real world but I found this a little more than over the top. It was antagonistic. And we can't attack our kids if we expect to teach them anything. But I am aware of the stereotype (sadly, I've seen a few) and where the poem was coming from. Great POV piece.

duh...lol Really teenagers have a bum rap...hell children have a bum rap. it seems nothing they do can be consider right. The most difficult time in a life is the changing stage towards puberty. They have so many questions and need someone to confide in but do they get itno. And now with so much child predators a large they really have it tough.

Also those poor souls seemingly get the rap of mental abuse because they don't do things fast enough, or don't feel well, and on top of all that, they get the proverbial peer pressure. They go to school in a prison system with armed guards patrolling the halls and they are conditioned by a bell like with Pavlov's dogs.

Ok, you see whose side I'm onlol

Nice write.
