Memory of a SmileA Poem by EncoreI was inspired to write this after I met Leon Leyson, who was the youngest survivor on Schindler's List.Imagine a scrawny 11 year old Living a normal life When suddenly everyone feared him He knew they wanted him dead But he didn't know why He lived in constant terror Hunger was his companion Within randomness of war And chaotic insanity Even looked evil in the eye He met a hero A hero with a smiling face Standing out among all who frowned A hero who treated him as human Not a number A hero whose kindness could not be drowned And the little boy knew When hope seemed lost A saved memory Of a hero Who does his best In the worst of times His life was saved And in that So was humanity © 2009 EncoreAuthor's Note
