Starving for Perfection

Starving for Perfection

A Poem by Megan
"

Just trying out some things. Let me know what you think.

"

Flaws, flaws, everywhere

Asymmetrical bodies, faces and hair.

See the images, let them rush through your mind

That the media shows us through the cameras they hide behind.

You’re fat and ugly, you stupid little w***e.

Why don’t you just go eat some more?

They judge us, mimic and tear us apart,

When they say we’re not good enough, they don’t bother to see the broken in our hearts.

Because we are the flawed, that’s the message through and through,

And if you were starving for the perfection they show us, you would be too.

I love poetry that deals with real-life issues such as this. You did an amazing job of getting your point across. I think everyone should become aware of issues that teenagers and young adults of today's society face and stop pushing them under the rug. Eating disorders, suicidal tendencies, depression, self-injury, self-hate, rape, child abuse....they are all things that people need to become aware of. Sorry I got carried away, but your poem really triggered something in me. Great job, and keep it up!!

It's a beautiful poem and this subject is very important and often neglected, we always forget that we are people; human beings can never be perfect, there will be no perfection present on this earth, if we were to be perfect we would be angles in the sky, nice rhyming, keep it up!

This is a good message, people always strive for perfection, neglecting what they already have, running after images that are as transient as the things they represent... lots of girls suffer from low self esteem and disorders in order to get that so called perfect look, when on the inside, the might be several times better than the 'models'. Good job! Thanks for sharing.
