A Poem by Megan
"

Another English class poem.

"

Darkness engulfs her

As she contemplates, teetering on the edge

Of the abyss. Surrender, and she might

Finally be free.

But stay here and fight, eventually losing the battle

Against the overwhelming emptiness that clouds her soul

And the vicious cycle will start all over again.

But it is here, wobbling on the last crumbling pieces of

Solid ground beneath her feet that she finally looks up

And sees for once that she is not alone in this cold, forgotten place.

Curious eyes search her face, wondering

Who is she to them? And who are they to her?

A mother, a brother, a teacher, a friend?

But then the darkness swells again, and they slowly disappear.

Alone again, a great shiver runs through her body

As she closes her eyes, crosses her fingers,

And jumps.

Enjoyed this one a lot. The constant struggle on the edge of letting go, between thoughts of why you shouldn't and the almost overwhelming feeling of why you should. That's what I got from this and identified with it well. Great job!
