We were trapped in this forsaken place. I could see the first houses from the town, no one would dare hurt us in such an obvious place. Moreover, it was broad day light.

"Unlock the door this instant !" my mum screamed at the top of her lungs.

The old man didn't reply, he simply turned around, in the most calmly fashion one could and went back behind his desk. My body was shaking, something insignificant as a shiver was long gone. I could feel my lips trembling even though I wasn't cold, it was the fear driving my every muscle.

"Unlock it ! Now ! I won't repeat myself again !" Great ! No Sidney was shaking too. I wanted to cry, to run out and never come back, to sit on my own bed, in my own house, where it was safe. Unreachable.

"I don't think ye grasp th' concept 'ere, Miss Jackobs." the man let a small hiss through his lips as he finished the sentence. He leaned forward and rested his elbows on the desk.

"How do you know my name ? What is this? "…How did he know our last name ? We'd never been in these parts of the state before. It was impossible.

"I think it's safe ter say that, ya ein't going out them doors." He nodded in their direction, once again a little too relaxed than he should have been.

My mum took her cell phone out of her pocket and tried to diall nine-one-one. After it didn't work the first time, she looked carefully at the screen and then raised her hand as far up as she could. The old seemed to be waiting for just that and spat in his metal bucket again. His grin would make a dentist fall to his knees and start crying.

"There's no….signal. I just had full bars outside…" Sidney was mystified, but I didn't really care. "Smash a window, jump, grab something sharp!" I was thinking, desperately wishing she could read my mind. I would have taken a brave step if I didn't firmly believe that if I'd moved as musch as an inch, I would have peed my pants.

"Roger !" , the old man called, "Roger !"

Who was he talking to ? There was no one there !

Suddenly someone pulled my shirt from behind with such a force, I thought my back could have broken the thin wooden door. I screamed in pain and laid on my side, clutching my knees, a desperate attempt to protect myself from another attack. I looked around again, there was no one in the room.

But my mother's face said it all.
