That First MeetingA Chapter by Meghan Frederick
"I am so done with this. I am so done with them. I'm not some kid anymore!" I grumbled to myself as I kicked a rock across the sidewalk I was walking on. I heaved out a sigh. I hate being an angel. I hate staying in one place. I want to explore the world. Travel. Get to know humans for once. I've never gotten away very long because of my family. They never let me get far. They act as if I'm the bad guy. As if I was the devil, not my dad.
A body somehow slammed into my chest. I instantly wrapped my arms around the person instinctually. I looked down expecting a little girl but instead it was a teenage girl. She looked up at me with pleading eyes. "Please you have to help me," she said breathlessly. "There's a group of men out to get me. Please! I need you to hide me." I looked around us. My hide out was just a block away. We could make it. I heard gun shots from behind us. "Come on! We have to hurry." I took her hand and lead her away. We scurried down the street then up the three flights of stairs. We heard yelling and multiple curse words. I tried the door but it was locked for the first time in months. The girl fell onto the floor and pulled her knees to her chest as she leaned against the wall. She was having an anxiety attack. The men were about to round the corner when I leaned in front of her and placed my hand over her mouth. My protection shield rounded us just as the men reached the last floor. They looked around but didn't see us. They tried the door and noticed it was locked. "Do you think she locked it?" "She doesn't live here. She doesn't have friends or family, but if she did get in she'll have to come out eventually. Come on let's go cover all the exits." The four of them walked back down the stairs to the map. I could see their guns hanging out of their pockets. What would they want with her? What has she done to upset them? Once I could no longer hear them, I took my hand away from her mouth and stood up as I fished for my keys in my pocket. "Why couldn't they see us?" she questioned. I shrugged as I opened the door for her. "I guess they weren't looking hard enough." She stood up and walked through the door and into the hallway. I led her to my apartment and let her inside. She stood awkwardly as I locked the door tight. I breathed out as I looked at her. She had long red curly hair and sea blue eyes. She was small in size. She didn't look like the type to cause trouble or the type to have a mob after her. "If you're tired you can sleep in the bed. I'll keep watch." She nodded as she turned around. "My name's Skyler by the way." "Mine's Dimitri." © 2013 Meghan FrederickAuthor's Note
