Sunlight in an empty room

Sunlight in an empty room

A Poem by Meghan

                      SUNLIGHT IN AN EMPTY ROOM

                       (Van Gogh’s Bedroom at Aries)

The boy is gone, but the sunlight remains.

Streaming through the windows on the things he left behind.

Boyhood toys in the closet unseen;

Towel still damp from when he washed his face.

His father and I stand at the threshold, wondering

Where did it all go, so fast?

When will he return?

What adventures will he have?

But the sunlight smiles -shining out there where he is.

This is from the perspective of a mother about her son, I believe? I think there is a gentle feel to this poem and it shows the kind and innocent love a person has for their child.

I love the use of questions in this poem. It's short and concise, well done.

This was well put together. I liked how there was intensity but it also went with the calm at the very end of the poem.
