Open The Box

Open The Box

A Poem by Megangel1327

Open the box.
Open the box and step inside,
Hear the lid shut.
Sink into the darkness,
Feel its constricting loving hug.
Be lulled into silence,
Ignore the black crepe
covering the truth-revealing glass.

Out of nowhere,
a tornado strikes,
Breaking the seams,
You fall down, watching your safe box
float away in pieces.
The darkness bursts,
Scattering into a harsh and bright rainbow,
Reflecting off the jagged mirror,
Broken across the grass.

Look into the glass,
See your weaknesses, your fears
And even more terrifying,
Your strength.
Can't ignore it as it tells you
That you will have to find your own way.
No yellow roads or emerald cities
No fairy witches to hold your hand.
Just your prayers and your strength,
Holding you back from scurrying after the box.
One step, then another
On to the great unknown stage,
The one we call Life.

What a boldly painted canvas that colors the world with life's music.. The box inviting.. the day drifting.. our hearts filled with courage stripped back. This is so poignant and fresh.
