We Were BlindA Poem by Megan ElizabethI have this horrible feeling that if the human race doesn't change we will be our own downfall
We search the world but cannot find
A single thing to leave behind We search our whole lives to find our way But what we do not know is we see it everyday Around the corner, in a book, or in a smile It would all be worth your while We search the world but cannot find A single thing because we are blind We search the world but cease to see The perfect world it ought to be We search for truth and we search for lies But ignore whats right before our eyes A dying earth or a hungry child This is how our world is styled We search the world but cease to see How full of hate and fear the world can really be We searched the world but it's at an end Our way we just could not mend We searched the world for money and for power But met it at an untimely hour There gone the wars leaving only destruction and death Dare we take our last breath We searched the world but it's at an end Now there is nothing left for us to defend We searched the world but couldn't find A single thing to leave behind Eternally remaining here is this hollowed ground Nothing is ever truly safe and sound The smoke has cleared-we all shall fade The price for ignorance has been paid We searched the world but couldn't find A single thing because we were blind
