Walls Can't Talk

Walls Can't Talk

A Poem by Nicole Laszlo

If walls could talk

It's a saying in which

I hear far too often

If walls could talk-

Oh the stories they'd tell,

If walls could talk?

But they can't

While it's true

That walls have eyes and ears

And noses and mouths

Walls have faces

But they can't see or hear

They can't smell or talk

Because nails

Have been drilled into their ears

Paint seeped over their eyes

Boards or bricks

Have covered their noses and mouths

Suffocating them

Rendering them forever silent

I pray that walls never talk

For if they do

We'll all hear a story

That's too horrible for words

We'll hear a story

Of the pains of silence
