On the Lake

On the Lake

A Poem by Megan E Twenter

ancient towns with all new people
destruction, at its best
my regard for the human race
has never been less
the ignorance, selfishness,
arrogance, stupidity
this change in society
something I never thought I'd see
these people don't deserve the sun
and definitly not the rain
they only see the surface beauty
not the underlying pain
the rocks, the dirt
the foundation of this earth
where has the earth gone
where has the foundation gone
where have the genuine
beautiful people gone
the sun is out, but all is gray
my mind is snowing on a seventy degree day

This is a great poem with a brilliant message! Magnificent! As one poet (whose name has slipped my mind) once said, "I love not man the less, but nature more". I heartily disagree. I like man less. True, very true. Ignorant, selfish, arrogant, stupid, selfish, but there is some underlying potential. Unfortunately, ignorance cancels out that. So sad. Thomas Hobbes's ideas were spot on!

One quick suggestion, which you can ignore if you wish. I would change "seventy degree" to "sultry". I believe it sounds more poetic and gives the line better flow. But, it's just an opinion.

Wonderful Job!!!
