Making Haste

Making Haste

A Poem by Megan E Twenter

The heart speaks not
of hurtful things
in the time with you
upon the second spring

And the mind does rest
when present is trust
and it is but love
not naivety nor lust

When the night is upon is
and the air is cool
when hand in hand
I feel not a fool

When the sun is rising
and does glimmer your lips
I lie in waiting
to awake thee with a kiss

In the darkest alley
when the black is blackest
I will lead you through
make haste the fastest

When there is a dawning
and your smile has graced
those eyes will twinkle
the distress erased

From the highest mountain
to the lowest valley
I will follow thee closely
on your trail gladly

From the sultry summer
to the harshest winter
I will hold thy hand
for I will always linger

You will never stray
and no harm may find thee
as long as your words
continue to bind me

May I meet your kindness
with the grace of the light
to protect you with everything
I will fear no fight

For everything Ive learned
and everything I know
there is nothing, no on else
that has felt like home
