In Coma

In Coma

A Poem by Megan E Twenter

Silence
Such silence
but the wind of the fan
and the breath of a dog

In darkness
not darkest
to the flame of lighter
to the simmer of a log

In comfort, In safety
In house or in car
In life, In death
in bed or in bar

The warmth in the air
and the cotton of your shirt
your scent lingers in waiting
for freshening with your return

In sleep or in conscience
in coma or REM
one face stands to flutter
in the frozen land

when the world has stopped spinning
and the clock doesnt tick
when the clouds cease to float
and the words seems to stick

close my eyes, always open
refresh my sight
in the darkest darkness
ill still see a light

its the light that brings morning
that pries these heavy eyes
from a slumber of discomfort
without you in mine

but steady the heart
that finds you in the night
for the feed that you taste
will always be mine
