Waiting

Waiting

A Poem by Megan E Twenter

Ive been waiting for a long time
to miss wanting to come home
Ive been trying for a lifetime
to not feel so alone

Its as though I've known you my whole life
when its only been a few years
Its as though youve known my smile
when my face is streamed with tears

I want to say that I miss you
almost like we've met before
I will say, next time I kiss you
there will be one thousand more

For a long time I wondered
how to fix my hearts shallow beat
Now it echoes like dark thunder
On an empty alley street

Ive been waiting just to smile
search for your eyes in the dark
but I've known you all the while
and what I've found is just the start

Its funny, Im day dreaming
about just holding your hand
I cant help but to feel anxious
when next to me you stand

I stand here my hands shaking
my heart jumping out of my chest
and the funniest part about this,
never happened with the rest

I keep steady, I keep breathing
I keep hoping, I keep dreaming
That another week may pass
and you wont hit the gas
