The Earth is a Cage Among Cages

The Earth is a Cage Among Cages

A Poem by Megan Levinsky

The Earth is a cage among cages

The Earth is a cage among cages

You can view it as an ant farm- for we work till we collapse

View it like a bee hive-

For we buzz around, pollinate to spread our roots

There are only so many places you can go-

So many things you can do

Sacrifice…. Sacrifice

We sacrifice one another for room-

Room for ideas, opinions, for another chunk of the fish tank

We think and make luxuries to deal with the claustrophobia

Only a select few has ever left-

Either they died to never return or forced to return-

For every fish needs water

Return to the tank we are forced to call home

Where violence is our activity

And kindness is the filter

Where we allow rules and authority to be the algae eating fish

There is nowhere to go but out

So we might as well keep swimming, and look out for predators

Nicely done. The world is, indeed, full of predators and a poem that makes people aware of that fact is both rare and beneficial.
