That Empty Spot Beside Me

A poem about long distance relationships.

There is a spot beside me 

that is as empty as can be.

It is a special spot you see,

it’s where you’re supposed to be.

I often take a glance and hope

that I will find you there,

and I’m always disappointed 

to find the spot so bare.

You used to fill the spot so well,

you were a perfect fit.

Then distance took his evil claws

and forced our hearts to split.

Physically I am alone

though you are always with me,

maybe not in that empty spot,

but in a spot inside me.

No matter how long the distance,

I’ll love you, that I will,

and that empty spot beside me

will wait for you to fill.
