A Christmas WishA Poem by MeganRuthA poem that, despite it's title, has meaning all year around. This year I'm not asking for money or clothes This year I'm not asking for packages and bows This year I'm not asking for anything for me My only Christmas wish comes without a fee I'm praying for starving children to eat I'm praying for safe ground underneath their feet I'm praying that each child could laugh and smile This is my only Christmas wish for a long, long while I wish that education could be for all I wish that each person could be caught when they fall I wish for all illnesses to be cured I wish this could be done without a word This list is simple, it can be done It's not impossible, this battle can be won Children are suffering as we eat our pie When we open our presents another child has died Do we take notice as we join in Christmas cheer? Do we help a starving child as we welcome a New Year? As we open our presents are these children on our minds? No, of course not! We are too selfish and blind This year I'm not looking for trees that glitter and glisten This year I'm only looking for someone who will listen.
